Jared's Website gets a new makeover. It was time for a new update! Jared is doing very well......
February 7, 2006
Well, finally have a moment to update Jared's website. We know it has been a long time again, but it is crazy around here. Jared is doing GREAT! He continues to do well health-wise and in every way. He is getting stronger with tri-weekly therapy at Casa Colina. He began doing water therapy and can float on his own now and swim on his back using his swimming pull exercisers. He is getting reaquainted with the water, but does not like that part of him "sinks" as he calls it. He is also working hard on his high school classes and staying busy. Jared and our family want to THANK you from the bottom of our hearts for all the continued support and prayers. We also must THANK ALL those who have attended fundraisers the last few months and to those who planned and worked hard at making the fundraisers such a success. Special thanks goes out to Vince's Spagetti, the Reading Night at Magnolia School, Redeemer Lutheran Church, those wonderful bible studies (you know who you are), Rhino Mechanics, and continued thanks to Francis Ladner, Chris Sherring and Mrs. Vargas. Also thanks to my Magnolia friends and PTA for putting together the Reading night. Our Magnolia students, parents and staff are the BEST! Jared's rehabilitation account has grown because of so many caring and generous people. Also thanks to Laura's terrific parents for all the dinners. Special thanks to Karen Miller for lots of yummy meals and support! We feel so blessed and lucky to have so many friends, acquaintances, and strangers give to help Jared and our family in general. We wish we could write each and every one of you the most heartfelt THANKS, but between work, school, therapy, life, and the continuing construction at our home we must make do with our electronic THANKS. Truly every contribution large (some have been TOO generous) and small (there is noting small about your caring) is so appreciated. We are waiting a little while to see just what the greatest need Jared has as far as his rehabilitation before purchasing anything. Jared is excited because he took his driver's evaluation training at Casa and will be able to return to driving with an adapted car. We placed a deposit on a Honda Element which can be adapted to fit his needs. We are all looking forward to Jared regaining some of his independence. Jared was excited to receive his varsity waterpolo letter at the recent banquet. It was good to see his team and coach who he misses. He certainly misses hanging out with his friends, but gets occasional visits. Leighla keeps him occupied and happy! We also have GREAT news about the specialized wheels our insurance refused to purchase for Jared's wheelchair. We put in for a grant from a very generous man, Rogers Serverson, in Orange County who helps spinal cord injury people. He and his SCI foundation have generously agreed to buy the wheels for Jared. They are very expensive so this means we can use Jared's money for something else more urgent to his rehabilitation. Again, if we have failed to personally or otherwise thank you for your help please know we TRULY thank you and remember all of your in our prayers.

Jared he is doing great figuring out new ways each day how to eat new food on his own. He fed himself most of his Thanksgiving Dinner. That was until he was too hungry to wait for the time it takes him to do it. He spent 9 hours sitting up *a new record for him* going to San Diego looking for apartments for his older sister, Kirstin. He got a new puppy from his girlfriend Leighla, he is absolutely loving her, her name is Lizzy after his Grandma Elizabeth. She absolutely loves him and cries whenever he leaves and doesn't take her with him. I would say a match made in heaven, she doesn't leave his side and as well just lays on his lap...perfect for him. He is doing alot better, but still has along ways to go. Thank you everyone for supporting him at Vinces it helps alot.
