On Saturday June 25, 2005, in between water polo games, Jared and his team went to Bolsa Chica Beach to have some fun. They were playing in the ocean and Jared dove under the water and hit head first into a sandbar. He was flipped upside down in the water and Casey Davis, one of his teammates, flipped him over and noticed something was wrong so then Casey drug him out of the ocean and he was taken by ambulance to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. The lifeguards report that at the beach Jared was not able to move his arms or legs at all, but by the time he was in the ambulance he had some movement in his arms. At the hospital, Jared was able to breathe on his own and talk. He immediately told his parents that he was so happy to be alive and he wanted to tell Casey thank you for saving his life. He is such an amazing, strong kid and he is grateful to be alive today.
